The series begins on Thursday with two short films Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads and Black, Bold and Beautiful: Black Women's Hair.
Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop is Spike Lee's graduate thesis project for NYU, supervised by Martin Scorsese.
Although some past exhibits have included films, this is the first film series presented by the Palmer Museum.
"We tried to think of a program that would be of interest to the entire university community as well as State College area," Seymour said.
Following the films, there will be a coffee hour for those who would like to stay and discuss the films.
The film series will continue throughout the month of February and there will be a second series in April.
Films that are scheduled in April include Basquiat, Radiohead: Meeting People is Easy and American Movie.
The museum will open its galleries at 7 p.m. and the films, which are free, will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium of the Palmer Museum of Art.
