Collegian Magazine: Living Issue

While some students search the classified ads to find the perfect apartment, others are content to call the dorms home.

After four years of so-so experiences living on and off campus, fifth-year senior April Leese was ready for the proverbial "room of one's own."

It's that time of the year again. Once again, get ready to decide whether to stick with the dorms or hunt for a prime rental location, either downtown or farther from campus.

Our Opinion: Beth Baumgardner and Kelly Bradish

The apartments of Penn Tower, 255 E. Beaver Ave., Alexander Court and Cedarbrook, the 300 block of E. Beaver Ave., put students in the middle of the downtown social life and shopping, while just being one block away from campus.

My Opinion: Jill Leonard

Real estate agents in State College's outskirts offer resort-like amenities to those willing to bus it to class.

It's a big university. Someone's got to furnish it.

Just before 5 a.m. on a weekday, the sun has not even risen yet and State College is a silent and dark town — except for one apartment on South Burrowes Street where members of the Penn State crew team live.

The search for a suitable living mate can be frustrating for some students who don't have anyone to live with.

Some of the luxuries from home most missed by students living on their own are the fully stocked refrigerator, well-balanced meals and mom's home cooking.

Life at Penn State is a lot like playing Penn Stateopoly — except students are less likely to land on Free Parking.
