Letter to the Editor
Coverage of inauguration disproportionate, biased
I was disappointed when I read Monday's issue of The Daily Collegian. The cause of my disappointment was the fact the Collegian chose to focus on the divisiveness of the protesters at the inauguration before even mentioning that an inauguration took place. As a native Washingtonian, a Penn State alumnus, and an attendee at the presidential inauguration, I can assure your readers that the media has paid a disproportionate amount of attention to the protesters than the persons who actually attended the inauguration. Please don't misunderstand. I respect and support the right of people to protest and the Collegian to report it. If the Gore-Lieberman ticket had won, I likely would have been out there carrying a sign myself. However, the inauguration was the main story and it was overlooked in your headlines in favor of a seemingly partisan zeal to present only the position of the protesters. I find it hard to believe that you couldn't find a single PSU student who went to Washington to celebrate rather than grouse. Even a loosely valid attempt at objectivity would have been appreciated.
