Casual opinions about sex disrespects the act itself

I cannot believe the idiocy that was displayed in the letter from Tom Hays. I cannot believe the lack of common sense, the showcase of irrational thought. Who in their right mind can possibly draw the conclusion that sex will cure the ills of illicit drug use? Who in their right mind, would say that abstinence is a bad thing? Apparently Tom Hays.

To summarize Mr. Hays' arguments, the simple solutions to the Ecstasy problem are condoms and 20 minutes. I guess the heroin problem could be solved with a hummer in an alley instead of a needle? Or an orgy could cure any addict of his or her need for cocaine? Ignorance is bliss!

No one, I repeat, no one was ever hurt by abstinence. And yes, Mr. Hays, abstinence has slowed the spread of AIDS, at least for those people who practice abstinence. Abstinence does not make sex taboo, and as a matter of fact, it shows that sex should be something that is respected and used only when appropriate.

"Appropriate" is a relative term, but for abstainers, that usually means marriage. By then, most abstainers won't use a condom because of the nature of marriage. I'm not sure if that was represented in that "study" Mr. Hays seemed to reference. Sex is a wonderful thing to share with someone when that someone is the person that you plan on spending the rest of your life with. Abstinence has no relation to Ectasy, and there is no logical way you can conclude that abstinence will lead to ectasy use.
