Letter to the Editor
Don't doubt George Bush before giving him chance
I'm writing a letter in response to the column in Monday's paper written by Collegian columnist Mike Still. Mr. Still has already denounced President Bush's agenda without giving President Bush a chance. Mr. Still claims that if we build a missile defense system, we will roll back to the days of the Cold War. In reality, Mr. Attention himself, Bill Clinton, has rolled our military back 40 years. Our military has deteriorated to the point in which soldiers are not properly equipped. He also claims that we can't break a treaty with Russia in 1972 to build a missile defense system. First of all, the treaty was made with the Soviet Union. Second, the Soviet Union no longer exists, which makes the treaty obsolete. Do not be worried, Mr. Still; our foreign policy will be in great hands with Mr. Powell and Mr. Cheney. They will have to patch the mess Billy Boy left in Israel. Mr. Still also does not approve of Mr. Bush's recent executive order to stop U.S. funding of abortions in other countries. Why should we use taxpayers' money to fund abortions when almost 50 percent of Americans, including myself, are anti-abortion and take responsibility for our actions. We should spend this money on the education of our own people so that in their lives, the option of abortion will never have to occur. Mr. Still makes all of these opinions and concerns one day into the Bush Administration. I ask Mr. Still and all Democrats to give President Bush a chance. Why don't you focus on the upcoming education and tax cut plans that will be given to Congress in the near future. If you give Mr. Bush a chance, I think you may be surprised.
