Student trustee owes an apology to CCSG members
In an article Monday, student trustee Geoffrey Grivner said, "To some extent, it's an excuse to come up here and have a good time." It was made in reference to student leaders who come from Commonwealth Campuses to attend Council of Commonwealth Student Government meetings. If one looked at our weekend agenda, he or she would see that our schedule does not permit for a great deal idle time. Students drive up to four hours to attend meetings from 8 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. The attire is professional, and meetings are conducted strictly according to Roberts Rules of Order. Students come to discuss issues such as attaining basic health care for 40,000 Penn State students across the state. They work hard to earn basic amenities that University Park students take for granted. To make such a comment as Mr. Grivner did is disrespectful of all of their hard work and dedication to the students and this university. Their petitions deserve the utmost of respect, not Mr. Grivner's flippant comment, which trivializes their efforts. One would think that someone chosen to represent the students would regard them better, rather than discredit their perseverance. Mr. Grivner owes his apologies to the student leaders of the Commonwealth and CCSG Central Staff, the University Park students who represent them.
