Having sex more effective than using Ecstacy drug
This week's New York Times Magazine had articles about the abstinence movement and the use of Ecstasy, both of which are on the rise. I think they should have been reported on together, and what better audience to share that opinion with than college students? As the abstinence movement gains momentum, it makes sex taboo. It substitutes fear for education. A federal study shows that teenagers who take off their chastity belts are less likely to put on a condom. If sex is wrong, how about using a pill to get off? I don't remember any bulletin boards about that. All Ecstasy does is change chemical levels in the brain to make one feel good. From what I hear, sex also generates good feelings, but there's more. Sex doesn't cost twenty dollars a pop. Sex doesn't leave an emotional crash after the high. Sex is natural. The abstinence movement hasn't lowered pregnancy rates or stopped AIDS. All it has done is convince us condoms are wrong and left us looking for alternatives. Moral of the story-find someone you love, kick out your roommate and use a condom.
