Last week, while I was probably watching Temptation Island, someone was installing a telephone so that strangers can make free local calls. I wanted to thank that person not only for saving me a few quarters, but for reminding me that I like people too.
I'll be the first to admit that with 700 cable channels and the power to shop in my underwear, I forget about the billions of people running around this world with me. Now, every time I walk down East College Avenue, I'll be reminded that all it takes to influence the lives of others is some thoughtfulness and time. I'll feel confident that with a little kindness, we can help each other get through this.
