WEHR's manager requests two things from students

In response to last week's letter, "WEHR's on-air comments about gays offend student," I would like to first and foremost apologize on behalf of the entire organization for this unacceptable on-air behavior. In no way does WEHR or its management condone the statements Mr. Hartman reports he heard on the station, and steps are being taken to correct the problem.

At the same time, I would like to request two things. First, that the Collegian be more sensitive in writing its headlines for letters. The comments are not "WEHR's comments." They were the comments of two DJs whose views do not represent the whole of the organization, which is composed of students who are by and large tolerant, accepting, and friendly.

Second, that any such incidents be reported to WEHR's management and/or East Halls Housing, who graciously sponsor our on-campus presence. We are better equipped to deal with situations directly than based on what is reported in the letters section of the Collegian.

Once again, I would like to state that WEHR is committed to representing the entire student body with its programming, and that these on-air remarks are, to say the least, unacceptable. Steps are being taken to correct this situation, and we would like to thank the student body for its support.

Joshua Miller
general manager of WEHR
