Letter to the Editor
Temptation Island reflects poor morals, vulgar culture

I am responding to the Jan. 17 editorial in the Collegian about Fox's new reality-based programming.

I find it absurd that modern television shows have to stoop to such idiocy to get ratings. For some people, reality-based programs offer a shock factor, so they tune in. Our society has become more accepting of vulgarity and bad programming, slowly letting it become commonplace.

Fox executives are looking for a hit, and actually the more publicity, negative or positive, increases ratings. We are no longer a society that can enjoy shows like Zoro and The Gong Show.

But honestly, what did you expect from Fox, the station of stupidity? It's the station that offers such quality programs as Animals Gone Bad and Real Police Videos.

The honest truth, although it's a cliche, is that sex sells. We all know it, and we all fall victim to it every time we turn on the TV. Fox will only continue to offer more offensive programs using this as a precedent. Some may say, "Don't tune in if you don't like it," but when will this downward spiral end? If the American people do not make a stand against such rubbish, we can only stand back and accept the programming of a TV giant more concerned with money than morals.
