Hofstra U. wrestling coach arrested for bar fight

A fight outside Gingerbread Man, 130 Heister St., at 2 a.m. Saturday led to an arrest, a citation and a broken nose, the State College Police Department said.

Angelo Zegarelli, 23, of Deer Park, N.Y., was arrested for simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. Zegarelli is a wrestling coach and graduate student from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., police said.

Police said Zegarelli was thrown out of the bar at 2 a.m. and trouble began when he tried to go back inside.

When he struggled with staff at the door, the fight broke out. Zegarelli punched a Penn State student, breaking his nose, police said.

Richard Attonito, a friend of Zegarelli's, was also involved in the fight, police said. Police cited Attonito, 23, of Madison, N.J. for disorderly conduct.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but police didn't know if the victim was taken to the hospital.

A spokeswoman from Centre Community Hospital said the victim was not in the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Zegarelli was arraigned by District Justice Carmine Prestia and released on $2,500 bail.

Attonito, also arraigned by Prestia, plead guilty to disorderly conduct for fighting and paid a $186.50 fine.
