Designs approved for two new science buildings

The final designs for two new science laboratories on the University Park campus were approved Friday at a meeting of the Penn State Board of Trustees.

The Chemistry and Life Sciences buildings will be built on either side of Shortlidge Road, just south of Eisenhower Auditorium. The buildings will be connected by an enclosed walkway over the road.

At $97.3 million, the project represents one of Penn State's most expensive building plans ever.

In comparison, the buildings will cost about as much as the Beaver Stadium expansion.

The chemistry building has a price tag of $54.3 million, and will be funded by the state government.

The life sciences building will cost $43 million and will be funded by the university.
