Letter to the Editor
Writer wrong about Giants winning the Super Bowl
Congratulations to Joshua Rhett Miller on a column that somehow was printed without being researched. On Wednesday, he wrote that the New York Giants would win the Super Bowl because "all of the early factors seem to lean toward the Giants." The Giants have had an excellent season that includes seven straight wins, but let's not forget that they will face the Baltimore Ravens' defense, which many are comparing with the Steel Curtain of the 1970s as one of the greatest ever. Oh yes, and the Ravens have won 10 times in a row. All subjectivity aside, the fact that his statement about the Ravens playing in their first Super Bowl was allowed to run is just shocking. True. However, he said that his readers are not supposed to mention the Colts, who had their most successful years in Baltimore. Miller says, "Half of the Ravens weren't even alive when owner Art Modell demanded Colts' wins." This idea is completely preposterous. Modell probably couldn't have cared less about Colts' wins since he owned the Cleveland Browns. For Mr. Miller's sake we'll have a little sports history review. Robert Irsay stole the Colts from Baltimore in March 1984, and Modell returned the favor to Cleveland by bringing the Browns to Baltimore five years ago and changing their name. As a journalism major, I understand there are deadlines, but it shouldn't stop you from researching to make sure your facts are right. That is irresponsible, plain and simple.
