Letter to the Editor
People have right to drink, enjoy alcohol in smart way
In Mr. Overmyer's letter on drinking yesterday, he states that drinking and intoxication should not be part of the Penn State experience. I would agree, if I didn't happen to like going out to the bars once or twice a weekend. I disagree with Mr. Overmyer's assumption that it is the people who "drink smart" who kill or injure thousands of people. The people who "drink smart" are not the ones drinking and driving. I enjoy drinking with my friends in State College, much more so because I don't have to drive anywhere afterwards. We drink and have fun, then get on the bus to go to our apartments or walk home. Would Mr. Overmyer rather that this drinking be occurring at a location where I would people would be forced to drive home? The answer to this question is nonexistent, because he believes no one should drink. To that, I proclaim that it is my constitutional right to drink as long as I do not infringe upon the safety of others. Bring back prohibition, and I won't drink. Aside from that, I will continue to drink responsibly.
