The No Refund Theatre is back at it again this semester. Tonight and Saturday, the group kicks off this semester with an Evening of Improvs.
Students are invited to attend the Improvs at 8 p.m. and watch the hilarity ensue. The night will be full of fun theatrical games and the audience will be able to watch and participate in the games, almost as if they were attending the television show, Whose Line Is It Anyway?
This past week the club had open auditions for some of its upcoming shows this season. Those shows include Somewhere in Between by Craig Pospisil, Suburbia by Eric Bogosian, Jesus: The Missing Years by Luke Davin, Nate Kushner and Mike Still, The Last Supper by Dan Rosen and Proposals by Neil Simon.
The first show of the season, Equus by Peter Shaffer, will be performed Jan. 26-27 in 111 Forum. The play tells the story of a troubled teenager who puts out the eyes of six horses and a psychiatrist's journey to figure out why he has done such horrible acts.
This student group of thespians has been delighting Penn State audiences since the fall of 1993. Back then, they were known as the Atherton Players, but soon came to be known under their current title. The group has more than 60 members and every year it grows in size.
The group usually performs around 10 shows a semester, some of which are written or directed by members. Others will include one-act plays, fairly new playwrights or playwrights of note. All of the shows are free and open to the public.
Nate Kushner, member of the NRT, believes this student group has become an outlet for many to involve themselves in the arts, whether it is as an audience member or an actor.
"It's a great thing, when anyone who wants to can go see a play every weekend for free," said Kushner (junior-English).
