AccuWeather executive to discuss new technologies

Joel N. Myers, the founder, president and chief executive officer of the world's leading commercial weather service, AccuWeather Inc., will give a talk at the Penn State Forum at noon today in the President's Hall at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.

Myers will discuss "Some Impacts of Technology and the Internet on the Roles of Private Enterprise, Government and Institutions" at the lunchtime speaker series offered by the Faculty Staff Club.

Myers founded the State College-based AccuWeather in 1962, one year after he completed his undergraduate degree at Penn State.

He served on the Penn State faculty for 19 years, and by his retirement in 1981, he had taught almost 17 percent of all practicing meteorologists in the United States.

Myers is a member of Penn State's Board of Trustees and has received numerous awards and recently became a commodity trading advisor and started a new company called Weather Prophets Inc.

Myers has also testified before Congress as an expert on the weather industry.

The event is open to the public. Tickets are $11 for non-members and $9 for members, which includes lunch. Reservations can be made by mail or by stopping by the Faculty Staff Club office at 103 HUB-Robeson Center.
