King commemorative march to take place today

A commemorative march in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. will take place beginning at 12:05 p.m. today on the steps of Old Main.

Activities before the march will begin at 11:30 a.m. and include speeches from Penn State President Graham Spanier, John Cahir, dean of undergraduate education, State College Mayor Bill Welch, Capt. Rick Coons, chair of undergraduate education diversity enhancement team, and Harold McKenzie, pastor of the Unity Church of Jesus Christ in State College.

A group sing will be led by Terri Dowdy, a local gospel singer. Students from Park Forest Middle School will also be reading their essays about King. The march will go from Old Main to College Avenue, from College Avenue to Shortlidge Road and finally to the HUB-Robeson Center, where it will end in Heritage Hall.
