Students and community members who wish to participate in Saturday’s Inaugural Voter March in Washington, D.C., have until noon today to save their spot in a transportation pool traveling from State College to the nation’s capital.
Cost for the transportation to Dupont Circle in Washington is $30 per person. Currently, organizer John Hoaglund, a Penn State research associate, said he expects to use cars and vans to make the trip. If more people register, they will use a bus, he said.
Vehicles will depart at 6 a.m. Saturday from the Atherton Street-Pollock Road faculty parking lot, located southwest of Atherton Street and northwest of Pollock Road by the soccer fields. Parking is free all day Saturday in the lot.The rally in Dupont Circle (which may move to The Ellipse) begins at 10 a.m. The transportation pool will return to University Park late that evening.
Thousands of Americans are expected to convene in Washington for a peaceful protest of the swearing-in of President-elect George W. Bush. Voter March is committed to peaceful, non-confrontational protest of the Bush selection.
In Washington, local travel is the responsibility of students. Hoaglund recommends purchasing an all-day D.C. Metro Rail Pass for $5 for anywhere on the line.
To register, call Hoaglund at 865-4792 or e-mail him at hoaglund@essec.psu.edu.
