Temptress from PSU on 'Island'
Dr. Alison Dietrich, 'Island' cast member, graduated from the university.

When students graduate from Penn State, they can expect good job offers, interesting opportunities and exciting futures.

Very few expect to be "temptresses" on national television.

Penn State graduate Dr. Alison Dietrich is a cast member of Fox's new reality-based show Temptation Island. Dietrich graduated in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology before heading to the University of Pennsylvania to get her degree in medicine.

Dietrich, 29, is one of the "temptresses" of the island, whose goal is to break up the four couples on the show.

"We had 13 single females, 13 single males and four couples on the show," said Jill Hudson, a press contact for Fox. "Contestants were on the island for two weeks."

According to a Fox press release, "Each couple will get the opportunity to find out if what they think they want is actually what they do want." Dietrich's job is to help them do just that, by acting as an "eligible single," and making herself available to the male contingent of the couples.

Dietrich is still on the show after last week's episode. The four couples were given the opportunity to vote the man and woman whom they found most threatening off of the island every episode.

Contestants like Dietrich were picked at nationwide casting calls held at different Hard Rock Cafés.

"They were held in Atlanta, Georgia, New York — all over. There was an entire process involved, video tests, the whole thing," said Hudson.

Surprisingly, the contestants won't get anything for appearing on the program.

"There is no prize involved in the show," said Hudson. "We just hope that they got the answers that they were looking for when they came on the show."

Dietrich graduated from Kutztown High School in 1989 as valedictorian and winner of 12 academic awards, including a scholarship to Penn State and a certificate of merit for being the highest ranked in her class of 127.

Although appearing as a "temptress" on national television may seem out of character for the honored student, this is not the first time that Dietrich has taken a walk on the wild side. In 1995, Dietrich, then a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, posed in Playboy as part of their "Women in the Ivy League" feature.

Dietrich is a resident at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia. Staff members at the hospital declined to comment on Dietrich's new fame, saying, "If you want to talk to Alison, you'll have to go through Fox. We're having nothing to do with the matter."

They're not the only ones refusing to comment. Fox is keeping their contestants well under wraps. "We will not talk about any specific person on the show," said Scott Gorgin of the Fox Public Relations department.

Cast members will not be allowed to talk to the media until after the series has ended, said Fox Public Relations staff members.

This is the second time that a Penn State graduate has appeared on a Fox reality-based program. Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire? also boasted a Penn State alumnus.

Representatives from Rocket Science Laboratories, the production company behind Temptation Island, were unable to comment on show specifics because of legal agreements with Fox, but rumors are circulating about a Temptation Island II.

Temptation Island airs Wednesday nights on Fox at 9 p.m., and will run for the next five weeks.
