MTV should be consistent when dealing with artists
I congratulate Tim Swift for his recent criticism and hypocrisy coming from MTV concerning Eminem and the network's recent anti-hate crime movement. Personally, I believe that is heart of this issue, not the artist's controversial lyrics. America was founded on free speech, so if someone like Eminem wants to make a CD with hate messages and violent threats, it is in no one's power to stop him. If the media decide that his work is worthy of awards, that too is their decision. My concern is that Eminem has quickly become one of the poster children for MTV. By playing songs with a catchy tune and words, they encourage American youths to go and purchase this CD that is filled with racial, violent and homophobic lyrics. Then they devote large programming blocks to stop these crimes that Eminem endorses. Please, MTV, make a choice. Stop playing Eminem and other musicians with similar messages or stop making social stances on issues that your musicians contradict.
