Liberals take cheap shots at Ashcroft's background

Look out Penn State conservatives! Here we go again. The liberals are out in force against us in their latest attempt at casting a dark shadow on the Bush Administration. Their latest target is attorney general nominee John Ashcroft.

The former Missouri attorney general, governor and U.S. senator is apparently too religious to enforce laws. His belief in Jesus as the ultimate authority supposedly strips him of his ability to read the law as it is written.

Or so the liberals would want you to believe. The truth is John Ashcroft has been an upstanding civil servant for several decades in Missouri. The recent cheap shots at his character by Democrats are not only ridiculous, but also completely false.

To say that he is a racist or a bigot, as many left-wing liberals have suggested, boggles my mind. This is a man who not only confirmed a majority of minority judges in his state, but as governor of Missouri in 1988, he also supported and signed into law a bill that significantly raised the penalties for crimes like assault or vandalism that were motivated by race or religion.

Are these actions those of a disgusting, destructive, revolting KKK bigot or racist? Thank God, no!

John Ashcroft has said repeatedly that his strong religious views will in no way affect his ability to enforce the laws on the books.

And just as a side note: Where was the outrage from the left side when Attorney General Janet Reno sent her "Waco Welcome Wagon" to greet the Davidians?
