Eminem is brilliant artist misunderstood by critics

I am writing in response to Tim Swift's column about Eminem. Tim showcases the uninformed attitude that has proven Eminem's point. Besides being, without question, the most skilled rap artist today, Eminem's lyrics display his genius.

Not only is he the first white hip-hop act to gain any real acceptance, but his style is unlike any before him.

Eminem chooses hyperbole as a means for social commentary, and uses his songs as a personal release. To take him seriously is to prove him right.

If you don't like his music, don't listen to it, but to say the media has some "moral obligation" to ignore him is ridiculous.

It's OK for other artists to have lyrics about killing, drugs, and sex and gangs, but Eminem is wrong for his lyrics?

The media is not here to filter what the American people watches or listens to; that's up to the individual or in the case of a minor, his or her parents. We live in a land of many freedoms, including free speech, which I enjoy every time I purchase a CD of music that I like, not what the media deems is appropriate.
