NEWS

The trial of Bellefonte resident Scott A. Emel, charged in last January's drunk driving accident that killed a Penn State librarian, begins today and is scheduled to continue through the week.

Students looking forward to an early-semester dip in the White Building pool will have to wait a few more weeks as contractors put the finishing touches on the new MBNA Student Recreation Center.

Although two months have passed since Cuntfest, the event is still a heated issue in the campus community.

The Black Hole, a photo developing and electronic accessories store, opened Saturday.

Ray Gricar announced his candidacy for re-election as Centre County's district attorney last week.

Students can be officially excused from classes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 15 this year.


SPORTS

In a recovery process that involved tiny, painstaking increments, Adam Taliaferro took his biggest, boldest steps Friday. Aided only by crutches, he walked out of Philadelphia's Magee Rehabilitation Hospital.

The Penn State men's basketball team was one shot away from upsetting No. 23 Iowa in its Big Ten home opener Saturday at The Bryce Jordan Center.
Dunn reluctant to use bench squad

The No. 2 Penn State men's ice hockey team made one of its goals to win the three tournaments it plays in this season.

The coveted Super Six. For women's gymnastics, it's comparable to the Final Four.

The semester break may have been a welcomed diversion for many students, but the time off did not help the Penn State Division II Ice Hockey team very much.
