Letter to the Editor
People should show pride for where they came from
Mr. Caucci's letter is unspeakable. I respect everyone's opinion and try to take a little of what everyone says to help mold who I am. And while I have taken a little of Mr. Caucci's viewpoint into me, I cannot believe what he is saying. When I see someone wearing a pin saying "I love being Black", I think that that individual is proud of who they are, not proud that "The Man" hasn't gotten them down. I do not know Mr. Caucci's ethnic makeup; however, I am white, and my saying "I love being white" does not mean I think white people are superior at all. I think that whether we are saying "I love being black" or "I love being white," we are saying "I love who I am." I know that racism still exists today, and will probably always exist; however, racism does not go just one way. Just as white people discriminate, black people discriminate, too. As far as being a patriot, I agree whole-heartedly with Mr. Swankoski. However, I do believe that we need to spend time working on our future. And, we must remember the past so that we can make the future better.
