Appearance detrimental to opportunities for women

Although men are affected by the use of their bodies as sex symbols, it is irrational to think that they are affected in similar magnitudes as women. Women are shown in more ads and are frequently dehumanized by focusing on a single body part instead of the whole female, making them an object of desire instead of individuals.

Bonzo was correct in saying that being fat is "detrimental to a woman." There are plus-sized actors and actresses, but I'm sure that they would share the numerous problems that they faced during their career due to their weight. If one takes a look at mainstream successful actresses one will see that they are generally void of plus-sized bodies.

Society does need to stop utilizing these demeaning images. Women need to take the first steps by valuing themselves as people. Then, maybe society will realize that it is unacceptable for women to be dehumanized by these images in the media.
