Electoral College benefits a far too bipartisan nation

This is a response to Bridget Savoy's desire to get rid of the Electoral College. I agree completely. However, you cannot just get rid of the Electoral College. Without it, people will merely be voting for who they'd rather have in office, not who they want in office. It would make the United States even more bipartisan than it already is.

With the Electoral College, people such as Nader have a chance to get the 5 percent needed to get government funding. Yes, he didn't get it this term, but he got a lot of recognition. Perhaps next election, a third party will get that crucial 5 percent. But if we abolish the Electoral College, there will not even be the pretense that our government is more than just Republicans and Democrats.
