Cuntfest may have been the straw that broke the conservative camel's back here at Penn State, as is apparent by Jeffrey Budney's "cry for help" in a letter to Rep. John Lawless last month concerning the Nov. 18 event.
I have to commend Mr. Budney for being so sly in trying to silence the feminist voice here at Penn State; after all, he didn't make a loud ruckus on campus about the apparently overwhelming pool of multiculturalism and diversity at our university.
Rather, Mr. Budney chose to quietly go straight for the throat by lobbying to cut funding for the event from the House Appropriations Committee. What strikes me, however, is not the manner in which Mr. Budney executed his tactic to eliminate liberal forums from our curriculum, but rather the basis on which he calls for their funding to be cut. In this case it seems it's, not so much the festival itself that upsets Mr. Budney and other like-minded students it's the name "Cuntfest".
It may have been wiser for Womyn's Concerns and the FML to simply appease the conservative Appropriations Committee in Harrisburg in order to ensure their funding by choosing a less aggravating title for their event.
Maybe then Mr. Budney and Rep. Lawless would be able to write the name of the festival in their letters to one another instead of blushing and stammering at the very thought of such an offensive title.
