DMB fans eager for new CD release
Besides tonight's concert, Dave Matthews diehards can't wait for new album.

As fans pack the Bryce Jordan Center tonight to enjoy the first Dave Matthews Band concert here in four years, they will have something else to dance about.

After keeping silent for some time, Dave Matthews gave the press and fans some news about their latest studio effort. Matthews revealed the band's upcoming fourth release will be titled Everyday, tentatively due out Feb. 27. The first single, "I Did It," will be out sometime in January.

This news came when Matthews spoke to press on Nov. 30 after the first My VH1 Music Awards, where the band picked up the award for Best Live Act. Though not one of the more notable awards, Matthews joked that it was better than winning "Best Dead Band." A Dave Matthews Band fan site (www.nancies.org) also won the award for Coolest Fan Web Site.

The album features some new territory for the band. First and most importantly is the new producer, Glen Ballard. Well known for his work with Alanis Morissette, he began the collaboration with the band after they parted ways with long-time producer Steve Lillywhite in September. Matthews said in a Web site interview there was nothing personal between the band and Lillywhite, they simply wanted a fresh start.

"We were just kind of a little lazy and the music (with Lillywhite) had a sort of sleepiness to it. We still love it but we came up with a new album we love just as much," Matthews said in a Rolling Stone interview.

The LP also showcases the other members of the band taking center stage and singing on the new tracks. Matthews himself is even experimenting with some new sounds.

"I'm playing baritone, I'm playing a little more electric (guitar), which is a lot of fun," Matthews said while backstage at the VH1 awards.

According to Matthews, the recent studio sessions with Ballard have been very productive. The band has even surprised itself with the music.

"It's definitely us, but it's fresh. . . .There's a lot of really great aggressive but positive music on it," Matthews said of the album.

There will be some surprises left of the CD. Though refusing to give names, Matthews told press that Everyday will feature a couple guest vocalists. The band has collaborated with other musicians before, specifically Bela Fleck and Morissette.

The band has already started to showcase some of its new material on its recent winter tour. This is good news for fans attending the show tonight. Some of the new songs played include "Grey Street" and "Bartender." These songs, though expected to be on the new LP, were previously introduced during the band's most recent summer tour.
