All those out there looking to finish up their holiday shopping might do good to look at a new band, Lifehouse. Lifehouse's album, No Name Face, released last month, just might be the right gift for someone you know.
You may have heard the group on the radio, although their hit song is rather new. "Hanging by a Moment," a love song that can be interpreted in different ways, is slowly becoming the staple of the band's success, and a good staple at that.
In the song "Moment," a man sings about his realized love.
He talks about how everything that makes him confused disappears when he's with her, "hanging by a moment."
Or if you've been on Napster late at night downloading a couple of the band's songs, you may have come across "Somebody Else's Song," another could-be hit of theirs.
Unlike "Moment," this song's theme is based on our desire to be someone else.
It talks of a kid who has all sorts of expectations, none of which he's set for himself.
It talks about how others have told him what he needs to do, and there's never a time where he's able to do things because he wants to.
Or perhaps, even if you've found the band to be rather interesting and you couldn't help but keep Napster running, you may have downloaded yet another prospective hit song, "Breathing."
"Breathing" is another love song, and like it's predecessor it can be interpreted in numerous ways.
The song is based on a theme of changing things back to normal.
Except, after the relationship is over and the hard work is gone, things are empty without her.
No matter which song you like best, chances are that you're going to like one of them.
Maybe you'll even like all of them. The entire album is just the same: filled with complex and rhythmic lyrics.
In fact, the band's lyrics are based primarily around the interpretation of the listener.
Almost every song on the CD can be taken in different ways.
"That's the great thing about a song -- a lyric may mean something totally different for someone else than it does for me and still be just as valid," Jason Wade, the 20 year old lead singer, said in a press release.
Lifehouse's style is one that college students can relate to.
Being of the college age, they tend to write and sing about thoughts and feelings most students have experienced. In addition, the band is able to keep our attention via an incredible musical style.
No matter what the reason for their success, their lyrics, songwriting or a recent tour with Pearl Jam, Lifehouse has taken a claim on the music industry. Not only does the album host three great singles, but it holds a CD of other great songs as well.
