In response to those who contend that Nader voters should change to Gore, I have to say the Gore has dug his own grave. He and the "New Democrats" have a history of leaving the progressives behind and building a centrist party that does not address the issues the Green Party does.
The New Democrats passed NAFTA and support the WTO, which offers American jobs overseas, unemploying thousands here in our country. Michael Moore has pointed out in his hometown of Flint, Mich., that more jobs were lost during the Clinton-Gore Administration due to NAFTA than during the entire Reagan-Bush era.
Secondly, in respect to the Supreme Court and Roe vs. Wade, Gore and his New Democrat Senate were the ones who allowed justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia into the seats.
It is not up to Nader voters to change their agenda. Rather, Gore and his supporters need to build up their own party. This is a message to them: The New Democrats need to shape up. Al Gore is a great guy, much better than Bush. He should have proved this in the debates but failed to do so. If the Democratic Party and the media only paid more attention to the progressive issues of the Green Party, perhaps Gore would have more support.
It's up to democrats to save themselves. It's up to the greens to sprout a new voice in politics.
The Green Party has worked hard to make a feasible, new and progressive choice for all Americans and we are not going to drop it all because our candidate stands up for what we believe. Vote for your hopes, not your fears.
