William W. Asbury Award winner is chosen

Melissa Suzanne Willis has been chosen the William W. Asbury Award winner for November.

Vice President of Student Affairs William Asbury will personally present this award at noon today during the NoonTime Concert Series, performed by Savoir Faire, in the HUB-Robeson Center.

The award is for students who are not graduating this year who have excelled in one or more of the following: dedication to community service, educational programs, promotion of diversity, responsible citizenship and creative programming.

Melissa's accomplishments include double majors in human development and family studies and speech communication.

She is a member of the dance team and Golden Key membership.

Willis also is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Fraternity.

She is a Schreyer Honor's College scholar, a scholarship recipient, a Big 33 scholarship recipient, Miss Penn State 1999, and a member of Kappa Omicron Nu.

She worked as a mentor/tutor for Operation Pride, an after-school program for youth living in low-income neighborhoods.

Willis was nominated for dedication to community service and volunteerism, responsible citizenship and creative and innovative programming.

Applications for this award will be accepted each month until March. 16, 2001.

Applications for nomination can be obtained in 207 HUB-Robeson Center.
