Penn State students looking for a little variety in the Bryce Jordan Center are in for a real treat. At 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 the Black Watch will be performing a serenade of pipes, drums and Highland dancing.
The Black Watch is a Scottish military band stationed in Tidsworth near Salisbury and its main interest is serving duty towards its country.
However, when military duties are not immediately needed, the band is able to tour the globe, which is why it is making a stop at Penn State.
The Black Watch is an honored tradition that promises to be quite entertaining when it performs later this month. Anyone with an ear for European bagpipe music can appreciate the sound the Black Watch has to offer.
Not only is the band's appearance in State College a rare one, but a fortunate one as well. Among the typical punk, rock and pop entertainment groups that frequent the Jordan Center, a bagpipe band such as the Black Watch offers a bit of variety to the concert schedule.
The performance will help give the student community a taste of other cultures. In years past when other such bands have graced the State College area, there has been a great deal of interest from the campus community.
Students can purchase discounted tickets for the event. Regular priced tickets are available for $17.50 and $25.00, however, $10 student tickets are available with a valid student ID+ card.
So when the Black Watch arrives next week, be sure to take advantage of the cultural traditions that the military band has to offer to State College.
