Simmons Haunted Dungeon scares up money for charity

The Simmons haunted dungeon has just completed its ninth year. It is the oldest non-IFC related haunted house.

And you think your laundry room is scary? Families braved their way through the dungeon which even took over this laundry room.

The funds collected from admission all go to charities. Different local and regional charities are selected each year. Usually the charities selected are smaller and lesser known. This year's charities were the Alzheimer's Association, Habitat for Humanity, Centre Wildlife Care and the Adam Taliaferro Fund.

Volunteers who donate their time in the spirit of Halloween fun run the dungeon. This year's budget was 2,000 dollars and any costs above that were covered by donations. One director even donated 700 dollars of his own money

Construction began last Monday for the Thursday night opening. After a successful weekend, the entire dungeon was taken apart by yesterday morning.

The Simmons Haunted Dungeon raised more than 3,000 dollars during its three days of operation.

After hours of set-up, this volunteer must lie in the same position for five hours. Upon entering the dungeon, patrons find insane doctors and mutilated patients crying for help.

Dungeon volunteers help each other apply make-up before the grand opening Thursday night.

Blood drips and needles and knives stick out of volunteers' bodies to horrify passers-by.

Frightened students jump away from a monster head breaking through the wall.
