Booing the Faculty Senate for discouraging fan boos

First off, I have to say that I am utterly shocked that the idea of discouraging booing was even considered. The Faculty Senate says the measure shows that the faculty supports civility at public gatherings. Great, who doesn't? I would rather have civility than chaos. But is booing chaos? Does the Faculty Senate honestly feel that Beaver Stadium turns into a mosh pit of anarchy? I can understand the curbing of bottle throwing, but not being able to toss out a Bronx cheer? Come on.

Who exactly is being affected by the booing? A player on full scholarship who drops a ball? A salaried referee who blows the game? I'm sure that these athletes and officials know that booing comes with the territory. I am the first one to boo, but I am also the first one to applaud a great play or call, on either side of the ball. I would gladly take some jeering for a full ride through school.

The Faculty Senate should be booed loudly for this measure that is a waste of time. Not only are they telling us how to act, they are attempting to control our freedom of speech. Boo the Faculty Senate and boo those that wish to make our university a dull, conformist place.
