A phone scam recently targeted at least one local senior citizen, State College Police Department said yesterday.
Two people, claiming to represent a Canadian law firm that disperses funds for a bankrupt U.S. company, are using a series of cellular phone calls to convince victims to send money to mail drops in Montreal, Canada. Victims are told to send the money by Western Union or cash by Global Priority Mail in exchange for rewards of up to $775,000.
State College police warn that if something appears too good to be true, it probably is. No one should send money to anyone with the promise of receiving more in return, State College police said.
Anyone who has received a similar call or has any other information can call State College police detective Ralph Ralston at 278-4742.
