To alleviate housing crisis, simply increase parking

If your campus suffers from a housing crisis, increase student parking. When students are able to commute and can find lower cost apartments away from the campus area, it will relieve the demand for apartments within walking distance to campus. Which would you rather see — students losing millions of dollars a year in overpriced student housing or students living in low-cost housing and having cars, but the university's budget in the red due to dorm vacancies? Most universities choose the former.
