Spike Lee's latest movie will hit the campus circuit before screening in theaters.
Bamboozled, starring Damon Wayans, Savion Glover and Jada Pinkett-Smith, will be screened exclusively in advance at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the HUB-Robeson Center Auditorium.
The screening is part of the Network Event Theater Inc. service that organizes on-campus, satellite-linked movie screenings well in advance of the actual release dates.
Free passes for the screening will be available at the HUB-Robeson Center's Information Desk, but seating is not guaranteed and is first-come, first-served.
The movie is a satire of prejudices that exist in network television, taking a comedic look at the rise and fall of a television writer. Wayans plays Pierre Delacroix, the sole black person writing for a floundering network. His ideas are constantly put down until his ratings-hungry boss, played by Michael Rappaport, gives him an ultimatum: Come up with a winner of a show, or get fired.
Delacroix creates an outrageous farce of stereotypical comedy, incorporating the minstrel shows of the old days. The show stars Tony Award winner Savion Glover, a homeless tap dancer, as Manray.
The spoof triggers off immense media acclaim and landslide ratings, but Delacroix comes under attack from his beautiful assistant Sloan Hopkins (Jada Pinkett-Smith). The day ratings peak is one that changes Delacroix's life forever.
