While I agree with most of what Elaine Hursen said in her column yesterday, I have to admit that it was a little off base. While I agree with her that it is not the government's job to regulate the entertainment industry, I disagree with her on the fact that it is Hollywood's job to pre-screen everything a child sees and hears. Her message seemed simple: Parents, it's OK to let your child see a movie because we have already pre-screened it. Where is the responsibility of the parent here? Isn't the parent supposed to be raising the child here, and not the entertainment industry? Most of the problems in American society stem from people not taking responsibility for the things in their lives. If you have a child, then it is your job to raise that child, not Hollywood's and not the federal government's. Both of my parents worked full-time jobs, yet they still had the time to know what I was watching and what I was listening to. They took responsibility for my up bringing. They didn't need the federal government or Hollywood to tell them how to raise their child.
