Burglars entered at least four locked dorm rooms in Stuart Hall during fall break, taking goods ranging from personal items to stereo equipment.
The thefts were reported to police Tuesday. A total value for the stolen goods has not been determined, but at least one victim reported $300 worth of missing items, according to a Penn State Police Services report.
Rooms on the fourth, fifth and seventh floors of Stuart Hall, located in East Halls, were entered sometime between Friday and Tuesday, Police Services Supervisor Stewart Neff said.
The doors did not show signs of forced entry, and the victims found their doors still locked upon their return from break, Neff said. All the entered residences were male dorm rooms.
Neff could not say how the burglar or burglars entered the secured rooms and were able to lock them again, but said the investigation is continuing. "It's too early to speculate," he said.
Although the dorms were kept open for residents over the four-day weekend, they were on 24-hour lock-down, similar to home football weekends. During the lock-down, building residents must use their ID+ cards to enter the dorms.
A variety of items such as posters and knickknacks were taken. "They sort of seem random," Neff said.
More valuable items including speakers, a CD player, CDs and an amplifier were also taken, he said. Neff said break-ins over student vacations are not unusual. "We've had other problems from time to time," he said.
The incidents are still under investigation. Police ask anyone with any information to contact Penn State Police Services at 863-1111.
