NET offers advanced screening of 'The Ladies Man' for free

For the Collegian

Network Event Theater Inc. will offer a free advanced screening of The Ladies Man at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the HUB-Robeson Auditorium. This is one of several advanced screenings NET has offered Penn State students.

Previously NET has shown films such as the popular movie Whipped and the Oscar-nominated film The Green Mile.

Passes are offered prior to the event to any interested student. However, due to the large amount of interest in the screenings, a pass does not necessarily guarantee a seat. Students must arrive early enough to make sure they can get a seat at the event.

The films typically offered are rather popular among Penn State students because they are free movies that have yet to be released to the general audience. In addition, because the movies are shown in the HUB-Robeson Auditorium, they are shown in their original wide-screen format with theater surround sound.

NET works with various colleges and universities across the country to offer such screenings to students. After the viewing, the movie is sometimes followed by a question and answer commentary between the students and the filmmakers.

The Ladies Man is a comedy starring Saturday Night Live actor Tim Meadows. Meadows plays radio talk show host Leon Phelps, the ultimate "ladies man."

Phelps is quickly fired from his job because of his crude on-air comments. A mysterious letter from "Sweet Thing" causes him to search for his one possible true love.

Meadows is joined by fellow SNL actor Will Ferrell who plays a Greco-Roman wrestling fanatic written in for comedic effect. Also in the cast is Karyn Parsons (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) who plays opposite Meadows as his radio producer.

Also starring in the movie are Billy Dee Williams, Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Lee Evans.

The Ladies Man was written in part by Meadows and is based on the popular SNL sketch character.

The movie looks to be promising in humor and certainly worth watching. Meadows' character is one of his most popular and promises to be a laugh riot throughout the film. The Ladies Man is rated R.
