Penn State student to be charged with DUI

A 19-year-old Penn State student will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and damage to an attended vehicle after striking a bicyclist at 1:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the State College Police Department.

The driver had a blood alcohol level of .196, police said.

The bicyclist, Penn State student William Hope, was riding west on Calder Way when the vehicle pulled out of College Pizza, 128 Locust Lane, and hit Hope.

Hope complained of head, neck and knee pain and was taken by Alpha Community Ambulance Service to Centre Community Hospital for treatment.

Police said a nearby officer witnessed the driver leaving the scene of the accident and running a stop sign. Additional charges might be filed sometime this week.

Officials at Centre Community Hospital said Hope was treated and released.
