Penn State sophomore Mishka Levy (Stafford, Texas) was named the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week officials announced on Monday afternoon. Levy was a key player in the opening week of the season in which Penn State dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 1 UCLA and won 3-1 over No. 9 Florida during the 2000 State Farm/NACWAA Volleyball Classic in Gainesville, Fla.
Levy posted a career-high 25 kills during the UCLA match, helping push Penn State into a fifth game with seven winners in the fourth set. Against the Gators, Levy recorded a match-high 20 kills while adding a career-high 14 digs, four blocks and an ace.
Levy was honored with all-tournament team status for her efforts at the NACWAA.
The middle hitter currently leads Penn State with 5.00 kills per game and is averaging 2.56 digs for the season.
The No. 2 Nittany Lions return to action this weekend when they travel to Austin, Texas to take part in the Texas Invitational. Penn State plays Arkansas at 6 p.m. Friday and No. 18 Texas at 8 p.m. Saturday.
