In the past two years, close to 1,000 runners have raised more than $14,000 to help fund leukemia research.
At 10 a.m. on Sept. 24 at the Intramural Building more runners will get a chance to raise that total at the third annual Melissa Heydenreich 5K Moxie-thon race against leukemia.
Melissa Heydenreich, a former Penn State graduate and Lion Ambassador, died of leukemia in 1997. While still an undergraduate, Heydenreich was a University Scholar and Renaissance Scholar.
The race is sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Lion Ambassadors in remembrance of her commitment to Penn State.
For more information or to obtain a registration form, contact Dorrie Gilman, Lion Ambassador and Moxie-thon chairperson at 863-3752 or Amber Krieg at 863-1520. Old Main is the pick-up and drop-off place for runner registration forms.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
