Preliminary hearing set on rape charge

A State College man charged with rape and several other charges is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. today at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.

Craig A. Martin, 522 E. College Avenue, faces charges of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, harassment and stalking, and marijuana possession for an incident the night of August 15.

Police charged Martin on Friday with raping an unconscious woman in her State College apartment. After being warned by police to stay away from the victim, Martin phoned her and visited her at work, police said.

According to police reports, the victim, Martin and another friend were watching movies and smoking marijuana in the victim's apartment the night of August 15. After the victim's friend left the apartment, the victim said she laid down on her bed, fully clothed. She told police her last memory is falling asleep while someone rubbed her back.

When the victim woke up, her pants and underwear had been removed and she felt "entered," according to the report. The victim said she got dressed as Martin entered the room. She left her apartment and called for help, according to the report.

When police returned with her to the apartment, they found Martin sleeping on the living room couch. They also discovered marijuana in his possession.

During several police questionings, Martin gave different accounts of the interaction between the victim and he the night of the alleged rape.
