Humor moves football film

In the movie The Replacements, when the players of the Washington Sentinels go on strike for a $1 million pay increase, the president of the team is forced to find a new coach and squad.

Gene Hackman shines as the replacement coach, Jimmy McGinty, who recruits a wide variety of new team members, including a soccer player, a cop, an inmate, a pair of bouncers and Shane Falco, an ex-college football star turned dock bum. This mix of players leads to many comedic moments as personalities and cultures clash.

Keanu Reeves is Shane Falco, the buff star quarterback who eventually leads the replacements to victory. Falco and his other teammates have the chance of a lifetime as replacement players.

As the replacements, they have a second chance at stardom and a second chance at success. In addition to the comedic, well-written script and powerful acting is a soundtrack that is jam-packed with dance songs old and new that could motivate even the most out of shape athletes.

Overall, The Replacements is the perfect movie to whisk away those unpacking blues and get ready for Penn State's 2000 football season.
