Creamery story misleading to readers, insults donors

Concerning The Daily Collegian's Aug. 3 article about changing the name and location of the University Creamery, I would like to take issue with the picture of crass commercialism that the story portrays in regard to naming the new food science building. At no time did I indicate to the reporter, Cristin Kelly, that the Creamery name "can be bought" for any size donation, nor was the use of the phrase "prospective buyers" accurate in describing alumni or friends of Penn State who might want to make gifts to help build the food science building.

The Penn State Board of Trustees names a facility in recognition of a donor's generosity. In my experience, donors, individual or corporate, are not "buyers" who "make offers." Without exception, they make gifts because they want to enrich the quality of experiences that Penn State offers its students and faculty.
