In a recent issue of People magazine, Steve Dougherty wrote that, "few singers can make a romance gone bad sound so good," while describing this alternative quintet.

TV Guide named the group "Artist of the Week" in its July 29th issue and Matchbox Twenty has also been featured in Spin magazine, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Jane and USA Today.

Matchbox Twenty, with special guest The Jayhawks, is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at The Bryce Jordan Center. The group will showcase works from its second release titled Mad Season.

According to www.RollingStone.com, "Matchbox evolved out of the popular Florida band Tabitha's Secret."

"The Jayhawks, formed in 1985 in Minneapolis, successfully blend country, folk and rock together," according to the site.

The show will be presented by Electric Factory Concerts, a division of SFX Entertainment and Bud Light. Tickets go on sale at 6 p.m. Thursday at the center, Eisenhower Auditorium, selected Uni-Mart ticket outlets, Commonwealth Campus ticket outlets, or they can be charged by phone at (800) 863-3336 or (814) 865-5555.

Bernie Punt, director of public relations for the center, said that tickets will be $28.50 for reserved seating and general floor admission. "There will be a limited number of general floor admission and reserved seating tickets for Penn State students at $19.50 with a maximum purchase of two tickets per student ID at the Bryce Jordan Ticket office and Commonwealth Campus ticket outlets," he said. Although Matchbox Twenty is the main act, Punt is positive about the potential of the JayHawks' alternative country sound to attract and keep audiences. He believes the JayHawks have the possibility of becoming big.

Matchbox Twenty however, will not be outshined by the JayHawks bid for patronage. On May 23, Matchbox Twenty was presented with the RIAA's Diamond Award trophies for its 1996 debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You on Atlantic Records.

The group recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard "Hot 100" chart with "Bent," the first single from its acclaimed second album, Mad Season.

The track's companion video can be seen on MTV (where it is a top 10 "Buzzworthy" clip), VH1, MTV, MTV2, Latin America, MuchMusic and The Box.

Matchbox Twenty's publicity and newly released sound alongside JayHawks' staying power will challenge music lovers to explore a unique combination.
