Former Penn State women's volleyball standout Lauren Cacciamani has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduated Scholarship, Penn State Sports Information said yesterday.
Cacciamani was one of 27 winners in the Div. I Women's Other Sports catergory, which includes all women's sports except basketball.
The 6-foot-2 senior led the Lady Lions in kills this year, with an average of 4.73 per game. Her .396 hitting percentage was tops in the Big Ten, as was her 1.58 blocks-per-game average.
Cacciamani, who majored in Art Education, graduated in May with a 3.57 grade-point average. Besides her on-court presence, she also remained active outside the lines, leading the Penn State chapter of Athletes in Action, the athletic ministry for Campus Crusade for Christ. She also volunteered at the Kutztown Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp.
Cacciamani is the 34th Penn Stater and third this year to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this year, after ex-Lions placekicker Travis Forney and ex-Lady Lions center Andrea Garner.
