Burglary suspect arrested

A State College resident was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with four burglaries that took place during the past week.

Randolph John Riesterer Jr., 21, was arraigned before District Justice Bradley Lunsford on felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass, firearms not to be carried without a license, and misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property. Reisterer was placed in Centre County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.

On Wednesday, an individual called the State College Police Department to report she looked out her window and saw a white male wearing a blue shirt and green shorts carrying a large black duffel bag leaving a residence on Blue Course Drive, according to court documents.

When police investigated, the witness said she knew the residents of the apartment were not home. Officer James Loesch discovered the patio door of the apartment showed signs of forced entry.

When Loesch and the witness returned from investigating the incident they saw the suspect come outside and sit on the curb. Loesch noticed the man on the curb matched the description of the suspect by his clothing and a tattoo on his calf, according to the documents.

During a conversation with officers, Riesterer acknowledged he was responsible for the theft. He said he pried the door open with a crowbar and then kicked it the rest of the way open and took a Kenwood stereo and speakers as well as a Sharp video cassette recorder, according to the documents. He also admitted to bringing a 40-caliber Glock pistol with him to the apartment. He told police he took it as "more of a threat than anything."

Reisterer made four separate entries into the apartment, carrying items out with him. He provided a written statement admitting to the break-in, according to court documents. Reisterer also admitted to burglarizing two other apartments on Bluecourse Drive Wednesday, an apartment on Bellaire Avenue Monday and the Uni-Mart on Bellaire Avenue Tuesday, according to a State College police press release. He allegedly stole $293 in inventory from Uni-Mart. He worked at several Uni-Mart locations between Aug. 1998 and Feb. 2000, said Amy Marshall, Uni-Mart's general council.
