Police used pepper spray and riot gear to disperse an estimated 2,500 people, mostly students, who flooded the corner of Beaver Avenue and Locust Lane, resulting in 15 arrests and causing minor property damage early yesterday morning.

About a fifth of Penn State's 6.23 percent 2000-01 tuition increase will cover what the university describes as "student support initiatives," with the rest constituting a base tuition increase.

The university's budget wasn't the only item of business for the Penn State Board of Trustees Friday morning.

Penn State officially dedicated the senior class gifts of 1998 and 1999 Saturday morning in the HUB-Paul Robeson Cultural Center.

Penn State received $170.8 million in either gifts or pledges from corporations, foundations and Penn State alumni the last fiscal year ending June 30, according to a Penn State press release.

The Penn State Board of Trustees approved a recommendation Friday that Nobel Prize winner Stanley Prusiner, M.D. be granted an honorary doctorate of science degree.

Despite receiving donations in 36 regions of the Red Cross Blood Services, a need for all blood types still remains, according to a press release.
